Gordon Brown should get out more often

The former Defence Secretary, John Hutton, has added his voice to the chorus of those pointing out that the Prime Minister’s line of “Labour investment v. Tory cuts” is unsustainable nonsense:

“There’s going to be a very important debate in the next few months about that. Politicians have got to lead that debate and be clear with people.

“The country expects honesty about this. They know that things are going to be tight in the next few years.

“People are much more grown up than we often assume. They understand a change is coming.”

Hutton is, of course, entirely right.  If the Prime Minister got out and about a bit, rather than holing himself up in the Downing Street bunker with the likes of Shaun Woodward, he would know that people in the real world are desperately concerned about his reckless strategy of borrow and spend.

The summer recess is fast approaching.  The PM should take advantage of it to visit shops, post offices, pubs, church bazaars and anywhere else he might encounter real people and speak to them about their hopes, fears, priorities and worries.

He might learn a thing or two.

One Response to Gordon Brown should get out more often

  1. Monty Slocombe

Friends in America tell me that they are disenchanted with their new President who is furiously pumping money into the public sector, and for ever creating quangos whilst states and cities go bancrupt.

Since we are so economically dependant on America’s fortunes, might not the combination of Obamah and Brown’s policies create an even worse economic situation than we are now experiencing over the next few months?

How much more damage will Gordon be allowed to inflict upon us before he is made to go. and who is going to make him go please?
