Jacqui Smith has announced that she will not, after all, be making a statement to the House on the Damian Green affair next week, on the basis that the investigation was an operational matter for the police.
I have the feeling that the House may take a somewhat different view.

There could be other reasons, David.
I, for one, consider the 88p spent on the plug for Jacqui Smith was the best investment the taxpayer ever made, and can’t understand the fuss.
I don’t know why you get so excited.
Short of announcing she had muurdered her husband, Ministers can get away with metaphorical murder and survive.
MPs in the HOC are doing their collective best to ensure those of the public who actually take any interest conclude :
1. You are all on the take
2. Labour smear evryone
3. Government Ministers are incompetent and lie with impunity.
I see no reason for anything Ms Smith does or says will change ANYTHING.
(or in other words, the HOC is a complete shambles held in derision and scorn)
