I was extremely pleased and relieved to hear that Conwy County Councillors today resolved to seek counsel’s opinion on the merits of an application for judicial review of the decision to grant consent for the development of the proposed Gwynt y Môr wind farm. The development, if it proceeds, will be the second biggest offshore wind farm in the world; it will consequently have an enormous impact on the North Wales coast, its residents and its economy.
The Secretary of State’s decision letter, which I have read, is a complex document and will need to be considered by specialist counsel. It may be, of course, that counsel will conclude that there is no scope for judicial review; however, given the importance of the issue to the people of this area, it is right to seek legal advice.
The councillors of Conwy have done the right thing in the interests of their electors and I applaud them for it.
I wonder if the electorate would have been protected by the councillors of Conwy if the political flavour had been yellow on green.
Somehow I doubt it. Well done Conwy.
