As usual, the event was a tremendous success. The competition attracts the enthusiastic participation of many of the residents of the Glyn, with friendly rivalry helping to encourage the cultivation of increasingly spectacular gardens.
Colwyn Bay’s tradition of success in floral competitions has continued this year. Once again, it has won the Wales in Bloom “large town” award, and a clutch of other prizes, too.
However, worries about the future of Wales in Bloom continue; word has it that a certain Welsh minister, bizarrely enough, disapproves of any form of competition and is minded to withdraw the funding.
If that happens, expect fireworks from Colwyn Bay, and from the Glyn in particular.

Come on David – name and shame! Don’t leave us in the lurch with just a certain Welsh minister
The strange thing is that if there was no competition there would be no Olympic Games.
Doesn’t this certain Welsh minister realise that it is competition that inspires people to achieve the previously unattainable.
The view that competition is wrong is a sick one, it is a modernist no brainer. Where do these people keep their brains?
No public consultation on this issue then, if this minister says there will be no competition, then that is the ruling of the Welsh Assembly Government?
Well done the Glyn Estate. Keep up the competition, at least Colwyn has got it right showing the way to Wales and a certain Welsh minister.
